How to Use a Coyote Trap Successfully
Coyotes are the animals that can be dangerous to pets, livestock or even humans. They are scavengers for the most part but they enjoy stalking live prey as well. Their favorite foods include mice, rats, birds, squirrels, rabbits and even small pets. In order for you to get rid of these creatures, you can use a live humane coyote trap.
It is very effective and definitely works. A coyote trap is made with heavy duty welded wire mesh and a reinforced with steel frame to guarantee a long life and t make sure that the animal does not break free when caught.
A coyote trap does not need any special tools in order for you to set it and they all come pre-assembled. These type of live animal traps work much better than leg hold traps because if you accidentally catch a dog or cat then you can just release it without any injury to the animal whatsoever.
Where to Set The Coyote Trap
The coyote trap should be placed where the animals are moving from one place to another such as a good trail leading to a favorite food source. The trap has a very sensitive trigger that assures you of a very secure and quick capture. The inner part of this trap is smooth enough to avoid injuring the coyotes once they are trapped inside.
These traps are available in very many sizes, shapes and designs that you can choose from. The bigger the trap the better of a success rate that you will achieve consequently the bigger the trap the more it costs. If money is not a problem then get the biggest one and if money is a concern then do what fits your budget

When baiting the trap you must tie the bait to the the trigger with a piece of string. If possible you need live bait such as a bird, mouse or something small. If you do not have access to anything like this then a dead animal as mentioned above would be the second best choice. Possibly you could get one with a BB or Pellet gun. The third and final choice for bait will be meat scraps or canned dog food.
Coyote Trap Six Day Method
Day One – Place the trap where you will be setting it at and do not set it. Place bait close to the trap.
Day Two – Place the bait a little closer to the trap providing that the coyote ate the bait you already placed, if not then wait until it has taken the bait before proceeding to day two.
Day Three – Place the bait on top of the trap, again after all other bait has been eaten and completely gone. The coyote trap is still not set at this stage.
Day Four – Place the bait inside the trap and be sure to close the trap so that the animal can not enter.
Day Five – Set the coyote trap and make sure the bait is tied to the very back of the trap.
Day Six – Bamm, you caught it, hopefully, if not leave the trap as is until you do.
It is very important to follow these steps as outlined because a coyote is the smartest of all animals with four legs, yes foxes included. Try not to spit or urinate on the coyote trap. Again they are very smart and if you are going to be successful then side with caution and have patience.
How to Release the Coyote From the Trap
1 – Drive to where ever you can find a remote spot. Coyotes can and will adapt to any type of landscape.
2 – On top of a hill is the best option, facing downward. If you can not find a hill then a ditch will do. If not then a field facing a few trees would be acceptable.
3 - Place a blanket over the trap. Everything will be covered except for the release door which is facing down hill and you are on top of the hill.
4 – Tie a piece of string to the bottom of the door so that you are able to move the release with one hand and pull the string with the other.
5 – After you are ready and no one else is in the way you need to soak the varmit with water, either bring some with you or release it where you will have access to water.
6 – As soon as you soak the coyote in the trap completely then pull the string .
Beware of the Coyote in the Trap
By completely soaking the animal it will totally forget about attacking you and it will haul butt as fast as it can. It is just something about water that makes them super skiddish.
Alternatively, you could always call a game warden or an animal removal company. You should have a trapping license to trap. An animal removal company will charge you a fee so you might want to ask how much they will charge.
Mornings are the best times to check the coyote trap since they are nocturnal animals. Whenever you catch an animal of any kind do not get your that hands near the mesh where they can and will bite you through the cage. They may look calm and cute but all animals when cage are actually aggressive. It is state law that all traps must e check on a daily basis. If you get bit you must kill the animal so that it can be tested for rabies.
